Each summer, LUMC youth ages 14 years and older particapate in the Salkehatchie Summer Mission program at Cayce, South Carolina. The South Carolina United Methodist Conference organizes mission camps throughout South Carolina with the intent of extreme makeovers of homes owned by disadvantaged persons known to be in need of assistance by local UMC churches. While the tangible goal is to fix up a home in one week, the program allows youth to experience serving others with less, to get to know other youth from around South Carolina, and to participate in a stimulating worship experience throughtout the week.
LUMC has particapated in the Salkehatchie Summer Mission program for well over 10 years and plans to continue into the future.
The Youth of LUMC raise all funds to support this program through various activities such as the updoming Luau and Basket Auction scheduled for April 30, 2011.
